We have our eclipse plans in place. We’ve got appropriate tunes on a playlist. All we need to make this astronomical party complete is some good party food. After scouring several stores I think I’ve got our menu set.

New Subaru

My trusty adventuremobile was starting to show some wear and tear. This has been one of my favorite vehicles that I’ve ever owned, and the thought of replacing it was a bit sad. Even so, the time had come. This week we traded it in on a new Subaru Outback.

Hendersonville Picture ID Workshop

I was at the Henderson County Library doing some research on The Kingdom of Happy Land. As I was leaving I passed by the library’s auditorium and noticed folks gathering for some sort of presentation. Having just given a talk at a library myself, I was curious. As I glanced at one of the flyers a man at the door said that it was a meeting about photo identification. I decided to check it out.

Indian River Paddling-6

It’s been a crazy couple of weeks. Before I do another paddling post I thought I’d do a quick update. Lots of family stuff going on, new instruments, and a bit of travel have occupied my time recently.

Yeah, Writer’s Block, or Something Like It

Lots going on, most of it’s fairly cool stuff, and lots about which to write. However, I completely lack motivation to do so. Add to that problems with this website and other headaches like a dead air conditioner and ongoing pain from gout, and I’ve fallen behind. I’ll get around to it, maybe tomorrow while … Read More “Yeah, Writer’s Block, or Something Like It” »

Ongoing issues with Laura’s mom’s Alzheimer’s care meant a sudden trip to Florida. Laura caught an immediate flight on Friday, but it was a concert weekend for me. So Monday morning I loaded up the car with cameras, computers, paddling gear, and musical instruments, and headed down. Here’s what happened Tuesday…

March for Science-18

It was another one of those weekends where everything was happening at the same time. It’s a Chorale concert weekend, downtown was hosting the Reedy River Race as well as the March for Science. There was baseball, festivals in just about every small surrounding town, and more than one individual could take in. Yet, we managed to squeeze in quite a bit of it in one day.

Doodle Trail from Pickens-10

It was a beautiful day and I decided I needed to be outside. While I’ve done lots of paddling lately, I have done very little pedaling, so I decided to take my bike over to Pickens and check out the Doodle Trail.

Doing Some Maintenance

Doing a bit of Spring Cleaning around here at RandomConnections. Actually, it’s more of a case of the house collapsing around you, then needing to clean things up. Regardless, it gives me an opportunity to work on a few things. The fun started with a simple update of one of the site’s plugins. For whatever … Read More “Doing Some Maintenance” »

Several weeks ago I got an unexpected request. Fellow tech educator Cathy Jo Nelson is president-elect of the South Carolina Association of School Librarians (SCASL), and was in charge of this year’s conference, to be held at the Hyatt in Greenville. Cathy asked if I, as a resident who blogs about our town, would be willing to say a few words about Greenville before the keynote address. I was flattered. Of course I said yes.
