Chip hooked me up with a new blogging service called Tumblr. The interface is super-simple, and there is an excellent "Share on Tumblr" applet that will automatically post videos, images, whatever into the Tumblr blog at the push of a button. As Chip states in his tagline, "Tumblr, because I’m too lazy to blog."
Having kept up RandomConnections on a regular basis for over three years now (four, if you count the other website I integrated into this one), I don’t intend on abandoning this format anytime soon. However, I’ve found that it might be good to have another place to keep stuff I find online. For example, YouTube is blocked in the school district where I work. If I post a YouTube video here, it would throw off the formating, etc., if someone in my district pulls up RandomConnections. My solution is Tumblr.
My new Tumblr account pulls in the RSS feed from this site, so basically it’s a mirror image. However, it will also have the YouTube videos and other bits of media I might have trouble integrating here. I’m still not sure how I’ll use it, but it’s an option.
