Over the weekend Laura told me that they were looking for artwork for the new Chemistry Department offices. Furman has completed a renovation of Plyler Hall, which is now part of the Townes Science Center on campus. The Chemistry Department has large blank walls that are just begging for some artwork. Laura suggested something semi-abstract dealing with the classical elements, so I thought I would see what I could create. The image above is the result.

This morning I was feeling much, much better than I had the past couple of days, so I decided to head down to Owings for their Pioneer Days. I had gone last year and really enjoyed myself, and really didn’t want to miss this year’s event. It was enjoyable again this year, but this year I noticed something very distressing. More on that later.
I left Greenville early so that I could get there before the parade started. As I was driving down the Interstate it looked like a wall of clouds hovering over the Gray Court exit. Under this cloud the humidity skyrocketed. Unfortunately, hot and humid was the way it was going to be.

I’ve always been fascinated by odd bits of masonry – remnants of long past days. Nothing so grandiose as the Sheldon Church ruins near Beaufort, or the Tanglewood Mansion columns in Seneca, these bits can be just a piece of a stone wall, a bit of a column that remains, or a set of stone … Read More “In Search of Phantom Stairs” »
One of my bosses has left for a new position. Lots of other folks are taking this three-day week for vacation. So I decided to stage a coup. Click the “read more” link to find out how I took this shot.
Since July 4th was on a Friday and we were already off on Fridays, our office also took off Monday. We came back from the wedding fairly quickly Sunday morning since Laura was having problems with sinuses, and I hadn’t gotten the chance to explore the area as much as I would have liked. Therefore, … Read More “Fourth Weekend Photo Ramble” »
Here’s my obligatory annual close up shot of a cone flower. It seems that just about every one of my Flickr photographer friends has a shot like this, most including some sort of insect – bee, etc. Here’s a small sampling…
This was my first week of four long days of work and Fridays off. This particular Friday I decided to get a jump start on the Father’s Day weekend and run down to see my father. One thing I inherited from my dad is a love of rambling. Our family has some legendary tales of … Read More “Father’s Day Rambles” »
