It was a good thing we are trying to come back from London this week. The news was full of a foiled plot to blow up airplanes bound from London to the US. The plot apparently involved carrying liquid explosives in carry-on luggage, which would be detonated with a small electronic device.
Subsequently, no carry-on luggage is allowed. No liquids (except for baby formula) are allowed. No small electronics such as iPods are allowed. I couldn’t imagine our flight without these amenities.
The news is still confusing at this point. We don’t know if these new restrictions apply to just those flights from London, or whether they apply to all foreign and domestic flights. I’m just glad we don’t have any more travel planned for awhile.
Around our office, rumors were running wild. There was talk that these restrictions were already being enforced at GSP. This reminds me of when there was a rumor that malls were going to be attached, and so Haywood Mall closed for a day. I guess everyone likes to feel important enough to be a terror target – even a tiny airport such as GSP or a podunk mall such as Haywoord.
