We have a cat with a broken leg.
Rascal already had a weak leg because of severe injuries sustained when just a kitten. His paw was crushed by a dog when he was just six weeks old, and the vet at the time thought that it would have to be amputated. However, he recovered, and has been able to get around fine for the past seven years with just an occasional limp.
Two days ago the limp got worse, and Rascal refused to put any weight on the leg. Yesterday, x-rays revealed a severe break, most likely requiring surgery. Today, under the influence of painkillers, he felt better and was demanding to go outside, yowling when we wouldn’t let him.
There is no question that we will take him to the orthopedic surgeon. Some may question the expense, but Rascal is part of our family, and he is healthy in every other aspect. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t have many more years left with us. I just hope we can get his surgery scheduled quickly so that he can get back to his rascally self.
