Quick Trip to Francis Beidler Forest

The weather has been fantastic, so Laura and I decided that after she got home from work Thursday, we would head down to Beidler Forest. We headed out around 5:30 PM, and found a cheap place to stay in St. George – right in the middle of nowhere, but close to the swamp.

The next morning we were up early, and were the first on the boardwalk at the forest.  It turned out to be a good thing.  We saw more variety of birds this time than any previous trip.  Partial list includes prothonotary warblers, yellow-rumped warblers, peliated woodpeckers, green herons, night herons, a barred owl (sitting in a tree only 20 feet from us), and lots of LGBs (little gray birds.)  We didn’t see too many reptiles, except for turtles.  I guess it was still too cool.

After a morning in the swamp, we headed south to Charleston.  We took just a quick turn through the Battery, then crossed the Cooper River before heading north and home.
