Groundbreaking

Yesterday we attended the groundbreaking for the new Charles H. Townes Science Center at Furman.  The center will include three buildings – the existing Riley Math and Computer Science Building, a renovated Plyler Hall, and a new, yet-unnamed building to house Chemistry and Biology.  The groundbreaking was attended by several Furman notables, including Dr. Townes and his wife, and Dick Riley, former governor and Secretary of Education.

The project is scheduled for 30 months for completion.  During that time, Laura will have to move out of her office and lab spaces.  The next couple of years will not be fun, I’m sure, but the new facilities are needed, and are long-overdue.
