Monday night there was a call waiting for me from Fourth Presbyterian in Greenville. My good friend and colleague, Dr. Ramon Kyser, is retiring, and I was asked about taking the interim Minster of Music position. The call did not surprise me – I’ve worked closely with Dr. Kyser over the years, as well as Rev. Beth Templeton and several other members of the church while I was at McCarter. However, the timing isn’t as good as it might be.
Thursday night I met with the interim search committee and had an interview. I found out that my cousin, Sam, would frequently be substituting as organist. Shortly after the interview, I got a call offering me the position. After talking it over with Laura and sleeping on it, I decided to accept. Looks like I’m back at the conductor’s podium again, at least for a short time.
