Laura had an accident while in Chicago last week, and came home with swollen knees and ankles. Today she was not feeling so great, so I was left to explore this part of Florida.

I started off by heading out to the Fort Pierce Inlet.  I could have hung out most of the day, just watching the fisherpeople and boats going to and fro.  Although warmer, the nice breeze from yesterday was still around.  Quite pleasant, all in all.

I eventually abandoned my  spot, and headed on south down A1A down South Hutchinson Island.  I pulled off at the Bear Island preserved, and made the mistake of walking down the trail.  It was really too hot.  There was a wonderful observation deck, but at mid-day not any really interesting birds.

I drive on down the road for a piece, then took the first turnout toward the beach.

The scene was wonderful.  The water was about the bluest I have ever seen it.  There was a steep drop off down to the water, and I didn’t really get close enough to dip my toes in.  However, it was mighty compelling.  I wanted to just go dive in.

When Amy got back from work, we took the boat back out, with me at the wheel this time.  I guess I need practice if I’m going to buy my own boat.  We road up the Indian River, then came back to our little island and cooled our toes while downing a couple of beers.  Nice.
