Last night after the Furman game several of us made a trek to the new restaurant, The Lazy Goat, which overlooks the Reedy River at River Place. It’s one of the many new upscale eateries that are popping up all over the Westend of Greenville. Background The Lazy Goat opened this past June, and is … Read More “The Lazy Goat” »

Since we both work and have no kids, we eat out a lot. I like trying new places, and am happy to pass along my opinions on these new restaurants. For these reviews, I try to stay away from the obvious chains (Chili’s, Applebees, Wendy’s, and other things ending with a long ee sound.) I’m also confining my reviews to the general Upstate area. We’ve had lot’s of fantastic meals on our travels, but I’d rather pass along the cuisine of this area.
A trip to Skagit wouldn’t be complete without a a ride in the Cascades, shopping in La Conner, a ferry ride, Deception Pass, and a meal at Chuckanut Manor. Tonight was our meal at Chuckanut, and it was one of the best we’ve had there. Background Chuckanut is a fixture in this area. It’s been … Read More “Chuckanut Manor” »
It’s been awhile since I’ve written up a restaurant review. In fact, I’ve visited five local places over the summer and have notes for reviews that I just haven’t written. These include Saffron Indian Cuisine, Pete’s on Wade Hampton, Basil Garden, Miyako Sushi, and Chicora Alley. I think this weekend I might just do a … Read More “La Superior Taqueria” »
Tonight we were invited to join several of our colleagues and one of our vendors at Pittypat’s Porch for a meal. Richard Darrell from Synrevoice likes to select a restaurant that typifies the cuisine of the host city for his client dinners. Since we are in Atlanta, his research led us to Pittypat’s as the … Read More “Pittypat’s Porch” »
It looked like dinner was going to be a problem. Barren County is a dry county. However, Cave City has passed a local exemption, and can serve alcohol. Regardless, it looked like our eating options were limited to a couple of steak houses or fast food. Our AAA book had listed the Sahara Steak House … Read More “Sahara Steak House” »
NOTE: This Restaurant is now closed. I spotted Chop’s Cajun Foods on the way home from work one evening when I decided to cut through on Pelham Road. This area is within range for a lunch excursion – just barely. I figured that the eateries in the Duncan are would be full of teachers. Couple … Read More “Chop’s Cajun Foods” »
Back last August I wrote about two new drive-through coffee stands that had opened in our area – Curbside Coffee and Bella Latte. In that post I made the following prediction… I suspect that… Curbside Coffee will be driven out of business by the newer, flashier Bella Latte. This comment garnered me several hate e-mails … Read More “One Coffee to Go” »
Charlie’s Steak House is the oldest restaurant in Greenville in continuous operation. Established in 1921, I think it’s been in the same location at 18 East Coffee Street all of those years. Oddly enough, as much as we eat out and as long as I’ve lived in the area, I had never eaten at Charlie’s … Read More “Charlie’s Steak House” »
Laura’s evening ACS meeting gave me another chance to try some new cuisine. Tonight I really wanted to go back to Juju’s Mediterranean, but the thought of fighting Woodruff Road traffic was more than I could bear. Instead, I decided to head down Pleasantburg to the Pita House. I had been here a couple of … Read More “Pita House” »
Laura had a meeting, and I had some time to kill, so I decided to try a new place. Tonight it was the Blockhouse Restaurant and Oyster Bar, located on Augusta Street.Atmosphere Having been in this spot since 1981, the Blockhouse is a bar with a few pretenses at being a restaurant. The name refers … Read More “Blockhouse Restaurant and Oyster Bar” »
