Who knew that keeping a blog could generate such anxiety? Apparently it does. I need to take a step back for a bit. Exactly one week from today we leave for the return trip to South Carolina. There’s just too much going on. I will be taking a break until we return to the east coast.
One of the things I love up here is the sense of community. There are lots of annual events, including the island’s Fourth of July Parade. The last time we attended the parade, Laura’s mother was still spending significant amounts of time on the island, seven years ago. This time I did more than just attend. I actually marched with a band in the parade, adding to the diversity of this year’s musical experiences.
Yep, I’m behind on blog posts. We’ve taken some cool trips lately and those photos have been posted to Flickr, but it seems that every time I sit down to write up a post something comes up. I’ve got at least four posts in the hopper right now.
The biggest distraction has been our preparations for the big Samish Island Yard Sale, held this past Saturday. Our participation was relatively small, but it still took a lot of time and effort.
Where did the time go? Before I knew it the first of June was upon us, meaning that we only have two more months left on the island. We haven’t accomplished anything near what we wanted, and panic sets in as we contemplate our next steps.
During the bleak cloudy days of winter it seems that all we did was pray for a bit of sunshine. Now, as a dusty pall hangs in the air turning blue skies to ochre, all we want is a good shower to knock down the dirt. It seems we can’t be satisfied. Such is life in a farming community.
My computer is on the blink. I had to do a system-wide restore from my Time Machine™ drive, but there are still lots of glitches that will take some time to work out. This blog post has no photos. That in and of itself should highlight the unusualness of the past few weeks. Our holiday trip back to South Carolina was..strange, and our return to Samish Island only heightened the limbo-like quality of the past few weeks. I’m sure that will change as we get back into a routine. Until then, here’s a photo-less recap recent happenings.
We’re back in South Carolina. It was an arduous trip across country, but we rolled into town on Wednesday and have been getting reacquainted with our house. It is good to be home and spend some time with family.
On Black Friday most people go buy excessively large TVs and other electronics. I wound up with something else – a velcro cast boot. This all goes back to our trip to Oregon at the end of October. Laura tripped over a curb and banged up her knees and elbow. Hers was the most obvious and dramatic injury, but apparently I’d done something more subtle and long-lasting.
Ah, Halloween, when the children of Bow Edison Elementary School parade past the bars and saloons of Edison and denizens of the town throw stuff at them. Actually, it’s a great annual tradition, one which Laura and I HAD to attend.
