The Hidden Choir

When I first started working at First Presbyterian in Laurens I was single.   As is typical for someone of that age, I enjoyed hanging out with my friends in Greenville.  Sometimes we would have some late Saturday nights, so I would crash at my sister’s house and get up early enough on Sunday to make it to church.  This gave rise to a recurring nightmare.  In this dream, I would awaken almost too late to get to church, and would rush straight to First Pres, usually attired in shorts, t-shirt, and athletic shoes.  It would be OK, though, because I’d have on a choir robe.  However, in my dream, somehow the architecture of the church would have changed so that the wall separating the choir from the pulpit area was gone.  Everyone in the congregation would see my hairy legs and tennis shoes.

I don’t think I’d be tempted to come in wearing shorts, but this dream wouldn’t be as bad of a problem at my current church.  At Fourth Presbyterian, the choir is in a loft in the back of the sanctuary.  I’m still getting used to it.  The choir is not "on stage" so to speak, so there tends to be a lot that goes on that wouldn’t normally happen in other configurations – chit-chat, shuffling, etc. etc.  The choir doesn’t even have choir robes, so that would negate my shorts-tennis shoes-robe strategy.
