Meat-n-3.4 : Cafeterias

Restaurants

Dad celebrated his 82nd birthday this week, so this weekend I trekked to Newberry County to take him and Mom out for lunch.

I’ve noticed that they prefer cafeterias such as S&S and Picadilly’s, or local eateries that offer buffets.  These places do tend to attract clientele of my parent’s age.  This has always puzzled me – why would folks of diminished mobility want to stand in a line, then carry a tray to their seats?  Why not go someplace where they are seated, order from a menu, and have a waiter bring everything to them?

My sister and I think we have it figured out.  My parents and many of their contemporaries didn’t eat out much.  It’s expensive, especially with a large family such as ours.  Rather than rely on a menu description, they would prefer to see, then select their food.  The phrase, "That looks good" takes on a literal meaning.

So, lunch was the buffet at Hog Heaven in Prosperity.  Good BBQ, good veggies, and good food all around.
