I Love a Rainy Day

…especially when it cancels out work-related activities.  I went on over to the SCALE site yesterday, only to hear the decision that the Sunday GALA would be cancelled due to the rain.  I came on home and Laura and I did a quick shopping run, then the rest of the afternoon was spent in a wonderfully lazy frame of mind as we watched rain fall on the lake.

Of course, we had to take time from our relaxation to watch the Kentucky Derby — two minutes of action preceeded by a ton of pomp and circumstance.  Smarty Jones won.  Whoopee.  Didn’t bet a penny.

We had overpriced but good fajitas at Don Pablos, and our weekly trek to Barnes & Noble.  Afterwards, it was time for a stimulating game of bridge at the Kaups.  Confession – I hate bridge.  I was forced to try to learn it by the mother of an ex-girlfriend.  I hated the mother, and those feelings transferred to the game.  Secondly, it never made any sense to me, especially the scoring bit…

The second card is turned up, except on Tuesdays. `Oh look, you’ve got two Jacks -you’ve got a half-fizbin already’

`So I need another Jack ?’

`No if you got another Jack you’d have a shronk – you’d be disqualified. No, what you need is a King and a deuce, except at night, of course, when you’d need a Queen and a three.’

`Except at night.’

`Oh look, you got another Jack – how lucky you are! If you had gotten a different card, say a King, then you’d get another card, unless it was dark when you’d have to give it back.

If it were dark on Tuesday !?!’

Right.”

Makes as much sense to me.

Sunday was another rainy, relaxing day.  I used the time I couldn’t go outside to straighten the house and work on this site.  Here’s a list of some improvements, even though most people stumbling across this page won’t notice anything…

  • Current Blog now shows two months instead of just one.  This is to make me look better when I don’t post an update for a couple of months.

  • Two fields were created on the blog DB so that I can flag entries for various purposes, such as a travel blog.

  • A rudimentary gallery DB with upload capabilities was added so I can quickly add images from our cross-country trip.

  • For my own purposes, my editing list now appears with the latest posts first, and earlier ones last.
