Warmth

Miscellaneous, Rants

Yes, I’m about to snap.  First, I watch as every house in our neighborhood regains power……except ours.  The earliest estimate I have is still Thursday for the electrician, then Saturday for the reconnect.  It’s hard to keep a positive disposition when your neighbors have lights and you’re still sitting in the dark.

My better nature would say that it’s not that I don’t want the neighbors to have lights – I just want mine back, too.  But remember, that’s my better nature, and I’m about to snap.  "Misery loves company" are also powerful words.

So, this morning I get up at 5:30, and linger in the shower with water at its hottest setting.  I shave by lantern light, and quickly dress before I freeze.  I contemplate firing up the generator to start a pot of coffee, but dismiss it as too much effort.  I may just run an extension cord over to the neighbor’s house for tomorrow.

Without coffee and a paper to linger over, I leave for the office early, hoping to stop by Atlanta Bread Company.  Guess what (snap)!  They don’t open until 7:00!  I decide to head straight to the office, driving through McDonald’s for some mediocre java and grub.  I figure the office is as good a place as any for warmth, and it’s got high-speed Internet.  This is our last day before winter break, and since I got here early, I may just have to head out earlier this afternoon.
