We’re on our way! We left Samish Island at about 8:00 am to avoid the worst of the Seattle rush hour (didn’t help) and after a long, long day of driving we arrived in Missoula, Montana.
The basics…
- Mileage
- Today – 540 miles
- Trip total – 540 miles
- States covered
- Washington
- Idaho
- Montana
Observations:
- When we arrived back in September wildfires made the view hazy. Such was the case when we departed this morning. It was hazy the entire route. It’s so dry that there’s a burn ban in Skagit County. Our grass was brown when we left.
- Eastern Washington is even drier. The winds whipped up incredible dust devils.
- There is some outstanding landscape through this route, even if it is dry. In particular, the Columbia River Gorge, The mountains of Idaho and the Coeur d’Alene area, as well as the western part of Montana into Missoula.
- My car gets horrible mileage with the kayaks on top, but the new racks are much more secure than the old ones.
