Technology is not my friend

General Technology

…at least, not this past weekend.  I’m guessing the tech gods were angry for my mixing Linux with an xBox last weekend.  Whatever, the reason, everything technology-related that I touched seemed to blow up on me this weekend.

First, there is (was) my computer.  I tried to update it to SP2, which managed to crash it royally.  The computer kept rebooting, to the point that the only rememdy left was to do a system recovery.  Fortunately, this doesn’t erase any of my data, but it does make it so that none of my previously installed programs work.  For example, my huge library of music files are still there, but I have lost hours of organizing iTunes because the library data files were lost.

I have to reinstall everything.  In some cases, the reinstalls won’t work because there is only one install permitted per computer.  I have to take the time to call tech support at the company and have them reset my number of reinstalls.  What a pain.

Fortunately, I am in the habit of backing up my data.  Just to be even more cautious, I bought an additional 250GB external drive and have moved all of my media files (photos and music) onto it.

At one point I gave up on the computer and decided to do some housework.  I find I work best while listening to music, so I had my iPod on.  As I was recoiling the vacuum cleaner cord, it snagged my headphones and slurpped them into the vacuum.  I was able to retrieve them, but it just added to my frustrations.

Fortunately, Furman won its game with Western Carolina resoundingly – 42-7.  Things were looking up by Sunday.
