During the summers we work a modified schedule in order to save energy costs. Monday-Thursday we work extended hours and our office is closed on Friday. Sounds like a fantastic idea. However, those long days can get to be really long, especially since I usually get up at 5:00 am to make it to work. Friday then becomes a catch-up day.
My whole rhythm gets thrown off-kilter in general. Combine that with the heat of summer, panic over getting everything done before school starts, and it’s no wonder that a summer malaise can start to set in.
This summer especially things seem to be in a funk. I’m not trying to open new schools like I was last year, but it’s still busy enough. We’ve also had worries about various family health issues, and we seem to have been traveling more than usual. Subsequently, my writing has slacked off a bit. I’m not going to blame the lack of writing on Twitter or Facebook, as others might. I’m hoping this blog is more substantial and will outlast Twitter.
But, since things have been a bit strange this summer, don’t panic if you see several posts suddenly appear at once. It just means that I’ve finally had a chance to edit compositions that I’ve been writing all along, and have just now gotten around to posting them.
I’ve got only two more weeks on the altered schedule. I’ll miss having Fridays off, but I think I’ll like having less hectic evenings.
