I love snow days. Even though I know I’ve got to make up the time, and that’s more problematic since I’m a 12-month employee, I still like making a lazy day of it.
The snow began last night and fell steadily throughout. I took a couple of shots with my new flash unit as it was coming down. Interestingly, the out-of-focus snow flakes took on the heptagonal shape formed by the seven blades of my lens diaphragm. I was using my 50mm f/1.8.
I woke up just before my alarm would normally go off, and then the phone rang. It was the announcement of school closing. Being a “district official”, I stayed awake with my phone in case I was needed.
Laura and I decided to use the extra time to do absentee voting, since we are both going to be busy that weekend. The county offices were open, and things went very smoothly.
At some point in the day I decided to run over to Falls Park with my camera. It was amazing how many people were there, most with high-end DSLR’s. It was as if I had stumbled into a camera class or something. I was very pleased to be able to get all of the bridge into one shot with the wider angle lens.
One snow day in the middle of the week seems really disruptive. Your mind gets into leisure mode, and Wham! You’ve got to get back. At least we start back with a delay in the morning.
