Revenge of the Appliances

They say that bad things come in threes. I guess it depends on how you figure this particular situation. We’ve had four major appliances just decide that they were not going to work any more – a strike, of sorts. First there was the hot tub that decided it wasn’t going to heat any water. I did manage to reset that and get it working again, hence my hesitation on the number.

Last week some pump on our heating system went out. Since we have a weird radiator system that’s not common in this part of the country, getting a replacement was a challenge. Fortunately, it was unseasonably warm last week. So a couple of days without heat and a bunch of money later, we’re back up and running.

The next was our refrigerator. We first thought it was just the freezing unit. Unfortunately, the whole thing seems to have died. Even more unfortunately, this was discovered AFTER Laura had done her weekly shopping. We managed to squeeze a bunch of things into our little drink refrigerator, but much was lost. Of course, this occurs six months after the unit went out of warranty. I guess we’re shopping for a new one.

As I was struggling with the refrigerator, Laura came upstairs with a stricken look on her face. The washing machine wasn’t emptying properly. We managed to get that fixed for the time being, and now have fingers crossed that nothing else goes haywire.
