General Technology

Nothing is as ephemeral as a web trend. Sean Carton over at Ziff-Davis Publishing has created a list of Top Ten Web Fads that have outlived their usefulness. Below is an abbreviated synopsis, with my take on these fads:

You gave her what??

Miscellaneous

Note to self: Nevermind that your wife’s birthday is close to Halloween.  Nevermind that you have a long tradition of including some kind of Halloween decoration or googah with her birthday gifts.  DO NOT include a little stuffed witch with her gifts for her 50th birthday.   Implied messages will be assumed.

First Flannel

I think it’s finally fall.  I put on my first flannel shirt of the season this evening, and if the weather peeps are to be believed, it’s supposed to drop into the upper 40’s this evening. Yesterday was another beautiful, relaxed day, with the possible exception of the Furman game.  Not too bad for a … Read More “First Flannel” »

Cardiac Paladins

OK, our team has got to stop this.  Furman barely edged out the Citadel in triple overtime after coming from a fourteen point deficit.  The turnaround only occured after back-up quarterback Renaldo Gray took over from Ingle Martin. Martin supposedly suffered from either a foot injury or cramps, which removed him from the game.  My … Read More “Cardiac Paladins” »

First full choir rehearsal at Fourth on my own.  Things went well, except… Sunday’s Anthem:  "How Can I Keep from Singing?" Quaker hymn made famous by Enya. Today’s News from Florida:  Choir refuses to stop singing and must be removed by authorities.  The pastor of a Charlotte Harbor church had 16 church members booted from … Read More “Cosmic convergence” »

Rants

I got a voice mail on my cell phone today with a job offer.  Now this in and of itself is amazing, because I don’t give my cell phone number out at all.  But, hey, if someone’s offering me a better job with less hassles, I might be willing to listen. Sooo, I foolishly call … Read More “Wow! A Job Offer!!” »

First @ Fourth

Music, Religion

I tend not to be nervous on Sunday mornings.  I figure what’s going to happen will happen.  Wendesday evenings are another matter, as I worry about getting everything ready.  Even with this being my first Sunday as choir director at Fourth Presbyterian, I wasn’t too nervous.  Excited, yes, but not nervous.  This, despite nightmares this … Read More “First @ Fourth” »

Yippee!!! The score almost changed with seconds to go, as App State made a field goal attempt.  Fortunately, they missed.

Science

Sometime back I took one of these cutesy online tests – this time it was a "Nerd Test" to see how nerdy I am.  I don’t dare give you the score, but look at it this way – I keep a blog.  That should say enough.  As I read the questions, it occured to me … Read More “Nobel Chemistry” »
