Antiqued

Photography

Dinner with Chip and Houston was at the Bohemian Cafe, followed by board games, video games, and the perfection of a recipe for Manhattans over at Chip’s place until the wee hours of the morning.  Even though I’d been up for nearly twenty-one straight hours, my recovery time took less than Houston, and I … Read More “Antiqued” »

Glassy Mountain to Twin Falls

Posted on January 14, 2007 By Tom 1 Comment on Glassy Mountain to Twin Falls
Local, Photography, Travel

With Laura out of town at a conference and a long weekend at my disposal, I had decided to goof off with Houston, and hopefully get a few decent shots. Houston and I have had some strange photo adventures over the many years, going all the way back to when we built pinhole cameras, and … Read More “Glassy Mountain to Twin Falls” »

Piedmont Sunrise

Local, Photography, Travel

This morning I got up at the same time I usually do on weekdays – 5:30 am. That’s ridiculous for a Saturday of a long weekend, but I had a goal. I wanted to capture sunrise of the Piedmont from Bald Rock. Primed with coffee and a biscuit from McDee’s, I drove straight up to … Read More “Piedmont Sunrise” »

Photography Songs

Music, Photography

For every situation in life there exists at least one song or bastardization thereof. Taylor’s Axiom I’ve posted them before. As a musician, those are words I’ve tried to live by. As a hobbyist, I like to find songs that fit my current passion. I’ve collected river songs for when I’m kayaking, songs about maps … Read More “Photography Songs” »

Age

Miscellaneous

I’ve always looked older than I am.  In high school I was often mistaken for a teacher and at Furman I was often mistaken for a professor.  I guess there’s something about a receding hairline at age 18 and a full beard that would tend to do that.  At some points in my life, this … Read More “Age” »

Whither the Weather, Part 2

Posted on January 7, 2007 By Tom 1 Comment on Whither the Weather, Part 2
Local, Photography

Ok, this is just getting ridiculous. Today the temps reached the mid-70s. The parks and downtown were loaded with people outside. Anyone with a convertible had the roof back. A clump of daffodils was in full bloom in our back yard. It’s January 6th. This should not be happening. I’m afraid that if we do … Read More “Whither the Weather, Part 2” »

More on Resolutions

Miscellaneous

I am so glad I got the jump on my New Year’s resolutions and started back in early November.  That way I can already begin to slack off.  Even though I beat the rush, hordes of others seem intent on getting started. Thursday I pulled into my athletic club parking lot to find it nearly … Read More “More on Resolutions” »

Whither the weather?

Miscellaneous

The weather got a little freaky around here this afternoon. There was heavy rain, followed immediately by bright sunshine and a rainbow. There were reports of a tornado just north and east of us. Couple this with 70 degree warmth in January, and it’s just plain weird.
