We had two significant arrivals this weekend from Florida. Laura’s mother arrived for her annual visit. She will be staying with us through Christmas, as she usually does. The other visitor will be with us on a more permanent basis. We have adopted Percy, a cat that showed up at Amy’s house over the summer and needed a home.
Before we got Cosmo we had told Amy that we would take Percy. This fall’s travel schedules have been crazy, so arranging a time for both Mrs. Wright and the cat to arrive has been a challenge. We knew that this cat was gray, and Laura really wanted an orange cat, so we went ahead and adopted Cosmo even though we knew Percy was on the way.
Percy is a gray tabby, and these photos make him look very much like the late Rascal. However, in person he has different coloration and features. He is an extremely calm and friendly cat. (Of course, we thought that of Cosmo until he settled in and earned his nickname “Teeth Walking on Claws.) He enjoys being around people, and is sitting in my lap as I type this.
We’re not sure of Percy’s age. According to Amy, he was much smaller when he arrived at her house over the summer. Right now he’s huge, and his head and paws look like he’s still got room to grow. According to the vet, he may be anywhere from a few months to a year old. However, he still shows kitten tendencies for playing.
Percy was named for Fort Pierce, his original home. Laura had thought about spelling it as “Purrcy” given how loudly he purrs. He has started to settle in. He gets along with and plays with the kitten. Misty tolerates him, but has been asking us for increased attention. At least we now have three laps in the house to accommodate each cat, and help through this process of integration.
Cosmo is orange? Ironic. Mom and dad have an orange cat who the kids named “Cosmo.”
