This morning I learned of the passing of a friend – Steve Pace. Steve was a fellow singer, who performed with us for years with both the Greenville Chorale and the Chorale Chamber Ensemble. Last February during one of our rehearsals, we received word that he had suffered an embolism. We were later to learn that this had been caused by a form of brain cancer. Steve leaves behind his wife, Pam. He was 46.
Steve was always congenial. He loved to sing, but there wasn’t an ounce of diva attitude in him. It was something he just enjoyed doing for the sheer beauty of the sound.
Our paths also crossed in the professional field. Steve worked for Norfolk Wire, which supplied many of our vendors. I would imagine that much of the miles of data cabling that criss-crosses our school came through Steve’s office.
The death of someone your own age always hits hard, especially someone like Steve. He will be missed.
