I may have to start an entire new category for Google Earth and Google Maps. I found this article on the UK Register, via Fark.com. Apparently South Korea and Thailand have asked that sensitive images be blocked. Sri Lanka, on the other hand, takes a more realistic view, according to Brigadier Daya Ratnayake,
"In this era of technology, you have to live with the fact that almost everything is on the internet – from bomb-making instructions to assembling aircraft. So it’s something the military has to learn to live with and adapt."
India agrees. Reuters quotes an anonymous source as saying…
"the issue of satellite imagery had been discussed at the highest level but the government had concluded that ‘technology cannot be stopped’."
I figured it was a matter of time before someone other than paranoid homeowners started complaining. Since most of the imagery is several years old, I’m not sure that this will be of strategic value. Now if they ever make those real-time sat images publicly available…
