Furman Transitions 2007

Tonight was the retirement dinner for Furman, and once again, three professors with whom I have worked mark the end of their careers at Furman.  Duncan McArthur taught English at Furman for 36 years.  He was my English professor my very first term as a freshman.  Ken Sargent nearly convinced me to become a geology major after taking once of his courses.  He had been at Furman for 39 years.  Although I never had courses with Judy Bainbridge while at Furman, I did draw upon her expertise as a Greenville historian as I developed multimedia projects with students about local history.  She had been at Furman for 31 years.

I always enjoy going to the Furman retirement dinner.  However, more and more the people I know have moved over to the emeritus status.  Still, it was good to see them tonight.

Interesting. I don’t know how long ago he retired, but I have known Albert Blackwell for almost thirty years now. We see Albert and Marian about once every year or two but it’s always nice to get together with them again.

Albert retired in 2004. While I didn’t know him much at Furman, after graduation we worked together on music projects quite a bit. I still see both of them once in awhile.
