The RandomConnections Podcast happened sooner than I thought! Take a look on the right-hand menu, and you’ll see a chit for Talkr. Open iTunes, or whatever Podcast feeder you use, then drag and drop the chit onto your subscription list. You will be automatically subscribed to an audio feed of this website in MP3 format.
This is an amazing free service (or, at least, free for now.) Talkr uses a text-to-speech engine to read and create the MP3 files. In addition to the free service, there is Talkr Basic and Talkr Premium, each with additional features. Right now the text is read with a female voice, and I haven’t checked to see if additional voices are available in the paid versions. Overall it does a great job, but it’s hard to get used to my thoughts and ideas being read in that voice as if it’s a news report. Some of my idiomatic expressions take a humorous twist. I certainly catch more typos when it’s read aloud.
This is a great service for the sight impaired, or for those with othe reading disabilities. I couldn’t think of a good reason to set up an RSS feed for the District Five website, but now I have one. As soon as it’s ready, I’m going to hook it into Talkr.
