But Siriusly, Folks

Ah, the Dog Days of Summer.  So named from ancient Roman times, not because of the languid outlook of canines, but because of a star.  This time of year, Sirius, the Dog Star, rises about the same time as the sun.  It was thought that that this combination of stellar bodies was responsible for the extreme heat that often hits this time of year.

As with everyone else, the heat has been getting to me, too.  The summer has been marked by drought of  various types.  There has been far too little water, either for paddling or watering gardens.  To remedy this, my gym workout consisted entirely of swimming.  While the pool water was cool and nice, since this was an indoor pool the room itself was sweltering.  Oh well.

On Wednesday, the Grove Road campus of Greenville Hospital System felt like a meat locker. I was in there for about 11 hours, and h’it was COLD.
