Bluegrass at Fireforge

Music

For well over a year now I’ve been playing in a Bluegrass jam at Fireforge Crafted Beer in downtown Greenville. The jam is hosted by Matt Puriton and Sam Kruer and features some amazing musicians from around the upstate. Each week I’m amazed at the quality of music that comes out, and we have a dedicated set of fans that come every week.

A couple of weeks ago I got a new Zoom H1 audio recorder to capture some ambient audio and do some live recordings. This thing is tiny, but it has 32 bit float recording, so there is no clipping if things get to loud.

At last Tuesday night’s session I tried plugging the new recording directly into Sam’s mixing board. I captured all of the songs we did and ran some minimal processing on them – adjusting the volume, adding a bit of compression, then adding a touch of reverb. I think the EQ still needs some adjustment, but this is OK for a proof-of-concept run.

I uploaded all of the audio files to Archive.org so that I can share them. Here’s an embed of all of the songs:

I didn’t have the correct cable for the tape-out connection on Sam’s board, so we used the effects-send. Next week I’ll be sure to bring the correct cable and maybe we can get an even better signal.
