Polite Spam

Posted on March 22, 2007 By Tom No Comments on Polite Spam
Internet, Miscellaneous

I get tons of spam comments on this website.  That’s just part of living with a blog that accepts comments.  Some of them try to flatter and fool you with a phrase such as, "I found the information on this website to be very useful."  Then they post tons of links to everything from dubious medical remedies to shady financial schemes.  I always wonder who in the world falls for these things so that they find it worthwhile to continue.

Most of this junk gets filtered so that I don’t have to deal with it.  I just hit Delete.  However, tonight, I found one of the most polite bits of spam I’ve ever seen.  Instead of trying to flatter me, it simply said, "Sorry about this," then proceeded to include the links for viagra, etc., etc.  What an intriguing new tactic.  Heck, I might even have to click on of those links….

…nah.
