La Conner

At 6:00 PM Saturday I was in bed.  I finally got out of bed at 6:30 AM Sunday morning – 12.5 hours of glorious sleep. Sunday was overcast with rain threatening.  It was the perfect day to recouperate and regenerate, and that’s pretty much what we did.  Duff came over from next door with a dinner and kayaking invite.  The rain precluded kayaking, but we did have a great dinner of wild river salmon.

Monday was our first tourista day, with a trip to La Conner.  Before we left, I took a long walk along the island, taking pictures as I went.  There seem to be more and more very large houses on the island, and there are more BMW’s and Lexus on the island.  I would hate to see the nature of the little village change, but it seems inevitable as more people discover this paradise.

In La Conner we did the usual – look in the shops and have lunch close to the waterfront.  From there it was back to Mount Vernon for a couple of errands, then home for a bit of rest.

Before dinner we headed to a bridge on the Samish River to look for salmon.  We spotted a few, and one very large crawfish making its way upstream.  Dinner was at a Mexican place in town, and from there we chased the sunset to Padilla Bay for a bit of photography.
