A new episode of Carolina Ghost Towns has dropped. This one is about the lost town of Shelton on the banks of the Broad River in Fairfield County, South Carolina.
A collection of photography and exploration focusing on Upstate South Carolina and beyond.
Thank you for this very interesting podcast. I like to explore the woods and rivers in Newberry, Union and Fairfield counties. It’s probably my favorite area in SC to explore. I’ve put in at the Shelton Ferry “ramp” you mentioned and paddled to Henderson Island many times. Very interesting area.
My grandmother grew up in the Shelton store I have heard many stories of Shelton!
Do any of the buildings still stand?
No. There are just foundations and the outlines of where the buildings were.
Tom,
A friend sent me the podcast on Shelton. I have been thinking of digging more into the history of this area. In 2019 I bought a parcel of land that was once owned by the Shelton Family. I would be interested in talking sometime regarding your research of the area.
Best Regards,
Steve
