First Spy Music, Now Spy Cameras

Is it ever ethical to take a photo of someone without their knowledge? When I was in Philadelphia, some of the best images were of the people. A large city has such diversity, and each individual has a unique story. Pointing a large Nikon at them just seems wrong, even at a distance with zoom lens. Would using a stealth camera be any better? Or perhaps its a matter of intent – photojournalism is OK (think Dorothea Lange’s images during the Depression), security surveillance is distasteful, but seems to have become a necessity in this day and age.

Tuckaseegee II

Paddling

I almost chickened out. TS Cindy flooded most of the Southeast on Thursday. The Tuck was running at 5.8 feet above normal, Hurricane Dennis was scheduled for landfall today, and it was cloudy in Greenville – all ingrediants for disaster. Despite certain doom, I loaded up the kayak and headed toward Dillsboro to meet Bob and Roxanne. After a slight memory slip as to the location of the put-in, I found Bob and Roxanne and unloaded the boats. The river didn’t look too rough, and a local raft company was getting ready to launch with children on board. We figured if kids could take it, we could handle what the Tuck might throw at us.

Restaurants

Justin’s Steakhouse has recently opened in the space that used to be occupied by La Boheme. One evening we passed by, and La Boheme had suddenly become Bistro 40. That lasted about six months before becoming Justin’s. We decided to give it a try before it morphed into something else.

Geocaching and Maps

Today geocachers from around the state gathered at Paris Mountain state Park to meet each other and discuss our sport. The hot topic is H3777, which would make geocaching illegal in all cemeteries, archeological sites, and state historic areas without express written permission.

Spy Music

Music

Spy MusicAfter watching the Fantastic Four and drawing the inevitable comparisons with The Incredibles, I got to thinking about the really cool soundtrack for the Incredibles. It seemed the perfect addition to my “cool music” collection, so I set off in search of a copy. It took some doing, but I did finally found a copy.

Fantastic Four – Fantastic Bore

Entertainment

Thank God I’m a target demographic. Otherwise I would never have these movie remakes of cartoons and shows I enjoyed in my youth, such as Spiderman, Batman, Bewitched, and now, the Fantastic Four.

As I tweak the site, I’m discovering more and more cool things. There are some interesting e-mail possibilities (which I won’t mention because of Spam potential.) I also finally got the links page to work, although it won’t sort by category. Oh well – at least it’s a start. Speaking of links, I guess I’m … Read More “More site discoveries” »

Independence Day Reflections

Miscellaneous

I’ve been so busy getting this website converted that I seem to have bypassed the July 4th holiday. We did our usual routine – charred dead cow at my place with pyrotechnics at my sister’s. Despite the routine, this year seemed unusual for several reasons, some of them personal, some just weird observations, and some of them political.

Constantly Evolving

Miscellaneous

The site continues to evolve. I think I’ve settled on a theme that looks good and still accommodates everything I want on the site. I’m using FastTrack by Sadish Balasubramanian, so the website is going to look like thousands of others that use this theme. I like it because it’s easily customized, and it doesn’t … Read More “Constantly Evolving” »
