Breakfast was across the street at Caribou Cafe, then it was off to the Metro, and back to the Mall.  My flight home was at 2:00 PM, so we didn’t have much time for sight seeing.  We decided to hit what monuments we could. The day was much hotter, and it took us longer to … Read More “DC2GSP” »

Shaken, Not Stirred

The Helix has a marvelous champagne social from 5:00 until 6:00.  After a day of exploring DC, Laura and I enjoyed a complimentary beverage while watching traffic in the lobby.  Not long after we got our drinks, Tim H arrived and joined us.  After a couple of glasses, we left him to continue checking in, … Read More “Shaken, Not Stirred” »

Land of Domes and Marble

The Helix is a party hotel, and is not especially quiet.  We heard revelry most of the night, and woke up still tired. The original plan was for John and I to meet up and play a disc golf course over in Arlington.  The rain put a cabash on that, so plans were amended to … Read More “Land of Domes and Marble” »

Hotel Helix

Imagine if you took all of the designers on those weird BBC makeover shows and turned them loose on a hotel, and you would have the Hotel Helix. One enters through sliding curtains – not doors – and is hit with multicolored squares of light that change colors every few seconds.

Laura has a conference in DC, so I decided to tag along for the weekend to visit our friends John and Kate. At four on a Friday we boarded a flight at GSP straight to Reagan International.

Been away a bit

We took a quick trip to DC over the weekend.  Even though I supposedly had WiFi in this hotel where we stayed, I couldn’t connect.  I’ll post things when I get a chance, making sure to change the date accordingly. I took a ton of photos.  It may take a bit longer to get any of … Read More “Been away a bit” »

Life Drive, Part Deux

Gear

Still playing with the Palm LifeDrive, and I’ve changed a couple of opinions. It seems that there is a way to use the entire screen for Grafiti. I guess I should read the manual! That makes this a much more useful device. I also got the keyboard to work. I was skeptical, especially since it … Read More “Life Drive, Part Deux” »

Yesterday we learned of the passing of Robert Moog, physicist, musician, and inventor of the Moog Synthesizer. Moog had brain cancer, and died at his home in Asheville, NC.

My Palm Lifedrive arrive this week. With all the craziness going on with our network, I didn’t get around to playing with it much until this weekend. The jury is still out, but right now I’m not so sure that this was such a great upgrade.
