Winter Wonderland

The weather forecast for our area calls for snow – as much as five inches of it in our area.  Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your point of view), it looks like most of it is going north of us.  With our weather patterns, if it doesn’t come up from the Gulf and Atlanta, it probably doesn’t reach us.  The mountains tend to get in the way and sap any interesting stuff before it reaches.  Most of what we get is ice, and that can be bad.

So, we’ve prepared for possible power loss, and laid in supplies for bad weather.  And, we hope for snow instead of ice.  In fact, I catch myself singing a few songs that seem to help.

Which brings me to the point of this post…

There are several songs classified as “Christmas” songs that really have nothing to do with Christmas except that they are about snow.  As far as I’m concerned, these could really be sung anytime during the winter.  Here’s my list:

  • Sleigh Ride
  • Jingle Bells
  • Let It Snow
  • Winter Wonderland
  • Baby It’s Cold Outside
  • Frosty the Snowman

As far as I can tell, Christmas never enters into the lyrics of these songs.  They could really be sung any time.  I bet there are others, too, that I just can’t remember.

So, I’ll keep singing “Let It Snow” and hope that we have a covering of white stuff when we wake up in the morning and that we still have power.

My favorite is sleigh ride, and we are in about 3 inches of ice with a frosty covering of snow right now. Wondering if we’ll have at least a delay Monday since the cold is supposed to hang around a few days…

Monday delay or not, I’m still hoping to make it to “Wicked” Sunday evening.
