Wild Weather Weekend

Snow covered back yard

The weekend started with rain. Despite that, I drove down to Prosperity, had a good visit with the parents, and was able to confirm two lookout towers (or, in this case, the lack thereof.) I was able to make it home before the really heavy rains hit.

Sunday, the rain continue, then late in the evening shifted over to snow. At about 9:00 PM our power went out. By that time school had already been called off for the day.

The day dawned bright, beautiful, and cold. We still had no power. In need of coffee I fired up our grill and dug out my camp perculator. It seemed to take forever, but it made a passable pot. Our neighbor came over to enjoy a cup with us as we commiserated over the lack of power.

About mid-morning I headed to to see what was happening. I drove over to the Reedy Falls Park to find the bridge iced over and the river flowing like crazy.

I picked up lunch on the way home, and Laura and I contemplated our options.

By 2:00 we still had no power. We packed up our things and headed to Furman for the afternoon. I wandered around campus and took a few photos.

I also lugged anything that could be recharged with me, and took advantage of access to power to charge up cell phones and laptops. As of 5:00 pm school had been called off for students for tomorrow, but we still have to report. And still, we have no power. Plans are for dinner out, then to try to figure out our options for the evening. At least we have hot water.
