While we were out taking the Subaru on its maiden voyage, we found ourselves in Travelers Rest and decided to stop by the Cafe at Williams Hardware. Our good friends Nancy and Joyce McCarrell purchased a block of buildings in downtown Travelers Rest right on the northern terminus of the Swamp Rabbit Trail, including the old Williams Hardware building. For the past year they have been hard at work transforming the former hardware store into a boutique and cafe. The shop opened for business last Monday, and the cafe is scheduled to open in another couple of weeks.
While Laura and her mom browsed the home decor items, Joyce gave me a tour of the new digs. The front part of the building is the shop, filled with gift items and decorations, all located around a central pot-bellied stove.
The back part of the shop will house the cafe, which isn’t quite ready. Tables are in place, but there will be a counter for ordering and other necessities for a cafe. Also under construction are an open-air seating area and deck which overlooks the Swamp Rabbit Trail. Joyce tells me that when open, the cafe will feature gourmet sandwiches and quiches. Sounds like it will be a great place to visit.
We wish Joyce and Nancy the best in their new business endeavor. The Cafe at Williams Hardware will be a welcome addition to Travelers Rest.
