Paintball with Cameras

In a few minutes I leave to meet with the Exposure.Greenville! photography group. Somehow I got corralled into being one of the organizers of this informal Flickr group, and tonight we’re gathering at River Place to do some long-exposure photography of the Falls area.

Usually there are only three or four of is at these things, but for some reason tonight’s meet-up is attracting a crowd. I’m not sure what the City of Greenville is going to think about roving gangs of photographers prowling the streets at night. It will be chaotic, with each of us getting in each other’s way, but it should still be fun.

I had a brainstorm as I was thinking about how many photographers might actually show up. It would be fun to divide into two teams and place something like paintball, but with cameras. A “hit” would be a clearly recognized face shot. The team with the most hits would be the winner. You could have your snipers with 400mm 2.8 lenses, and your short-range troupes armed with f/1.8’s. The darkness would make it even more challenging. There could even be a “capture the flag” element to it. I don’t know if this crowd would go for it or not, but I think it would be a blast (so to speak.)

Hi, I was wonderting whether you actually went though with the idea. Me and some friends are planning to do the same activity but we don’t really know how to do it. Maybe you have some tips?

Simon, we didn’t try it, but I think it would be loads of fun. If your friends do give it a shot, let me know with a comment here. I’d love to see some of the photos.
