Falling, Falling, Falling

As much as I love the trees that shade our house, sometimes they can be a real pain.  Reminders of last December’s ice storm still litter our yard.  Something is ALWAYS falling from the trees – autumn is leaves, spring is bundles of pollen, and mid-to-late summer come the acorns.  One almost needs to wear a hard hat as these inch-wide projectiles hurtle down from the trees.  Laura suspects that squirrels are throwing them at us.

Yesterday morning was rainy and cool.  We were sitting in our room that opens onto the deck, and Laura was just about to step through the sliding glass doors when a loud crash startled us.  A large limb fell from the tree right over the house and hit the deck just a few feet from where we were sitting/standing.  I don’t think it damaged the roof, but it did manage to take out the hand-rail on our deck.  I guess I know what I’m doing this weekend.
