Progress

EdTech

It’s Tuesday, which means we had our regular principal/district staff meeting.  It was full of the typical administrivia that tends to put me to sleep, until I heard the following phrase uttered…

Could you send that to us in electronic form?

This came from one of our least-technically inclined principals.  It also occurred to me that this wasn’t the first time I’d heard this phrase in one of our meetings.

Just a couple of years ago this phrase would have never been heard.  I was in the midst of a battle to get our office paper-trained and convert most of our forms to some electronic format – to think data and information instead of print and format.  We’re not there yet, but I find this comment to be a welcoming trend.

Tomorrow we leave for FETC in Orlando.  I’ve only attended once, and that was ten years ago.  This time I’m taking my school tech coordinators – scary.  As I packed, I thought back to the comment in the principals meeting and to a phone call from another principal.  That call suggested that I find another tech conference and take some principals with me.  Another good sign of progress.

The call also made me ponder – by taking my tech crew, am I only taking folks that may not be as affected by new technology idea?  Should I take teachers or administrators whose primary function is not technology-related?  Would these get more out of it?  I think for EdTech next year I might see if I can get a mix to attend.
