Furman 20th

My how quickly the years have passed…

This weekend was my 20th reunion at Furman.  I had lots of conflicting thoughts as to how I wanted to spend the weekend.  Should I spend the 100 bucks for reunion dinner at the Commerce Club with people I may or may not want to see, or do I hang out with the same crowd that has joined us every year for the past several years?  I chose the latter, and I’m glad I did.

Friday

We stopped by the Handlebar for RoundTable, then went to an overcrowded Rainbow for a Class of ’83 gathering.  Apart from the crowd I came in with, I didn’t see anyone I really wanted to talk to, so we left to find dinner elsewhere.  After that was the traditional walk on the mall – our anniversary and when Laura and I met.  They had the carnival rides set up again, and even had an oxygen bar.  I don’t know what idiot came up with this year’s theme – one hit wonders – but I can’t think of anything more inappropriate for football!

We watched Furman beat Davidson in women’s soccer, then headed out to the football practice field to watch fireworks.  It was as if our entourage was being given our own private showing.  There was no one around, and the fireworks were aimed right at us.  We even had some fallout.  It was great!

Saturday

Picked up BBQ at Henry’s, then headed to FU.  The morning was spent making the rounds of departments, saying hello to people. We still didn’t run into too many of my class.  After lunch, we went to Flagman’s tent and hung out for awhile.  The folks that post to the UFFP aren’t half as obnoxious in real life.  It was fun.

Game went about as expected, then the crowd came over to our house for mind-altering enchiladas and some serious hanging-out.
