Widgets and Maps

If you take a look at the sidebar under "Pages", you’ll see a new link for Widgets and Maps.  These are services that have been linked into my site through Widgetbox.  Widgetbox is basically a clearinghouse of blog applications.  You can get everything from Flickr interfaces to news RSS feeds delivered to your site.  It provides a neat control panel for organizing and editing the parameters of your widgets.  The best thing about this is that it’s free.

Some blogs include a widget or two on the front page in a sidebar.  I chose to include mine on a separate page so that I could use wider apps for mapping.   It took a bit of tweaking to get it to work right, including the creation of a new page template specifically for the widgets.  Right now I’ve got four widgets active.  I’ve got a map overlay of my latest geotagged photos, another interactive map with lat/long coordinates, a sudoku puzzle, and the classic Asteroids game.  Those last two were impulse choices, and may or may not stick around.  I had really meant for the page to focus on mapping and photography.

Regardless, there are cool widgets to suit just about anyone’s tastes.  Check it out, and see if you can beat my Asteroids high score.
