Local Republican Loonies

Posted on October 18, 2006 By Tom No Comments on Local Republican Loonies
Local, Rants

Given the Mark Foley scandal, Bush’s misbegotten war in Iraq, and the scads of other examples of hipocrisy in the Republican party, it still amazes me that they continue to fool people and get elected.

Our local races aren’t much better.  Our incumbent governor, Mark Sanford, has threatened to sue several television stations because they aired statements by Tommy Moore about Sanford’s record.  Huh???  He’s threatening to SUE and charging libel?  Of course, this completely ignores state and federal law that REQUIRES the stations to air Moore’s ads.  Apparently Sanford doesn’t like anyone bringing attention to his record (or lack therof.)

Candidate for Superintendent of Education, Karen Floyd, doesn’t seem much better.  Back in mid-September, The Beat did an article entitled "Blonde Ambition" about Floyd, for which they took some heat.  One of the criticisms The Beat received was regarding their comments about Floyd’s several marriages and divorce, referring to her as Karen Kanes Rogers Armor Floyd.  Being Sanford’s little puppy, Floyd has faithfully spouted the Republican line, including voicing support for the upcoming "Defense of Marriage" amendment, which will be on this fall’s ballott.   The Beat just figured that since she was so vocal about the amendment, which has NOTHING to do with the job she is seeking, then her own marital status was fair game.  Just goes to point out even more hipocrisy in the GOP.
