OK, So You’re Bound and Determined to Podcast

Given my earlier rant against Podcasts, one might think that I’m completely against them.  No.  I just want them to be used correctly. I actually have some ideas for Podcasts that I might explore…

  • Casual Segs – In this podcast I would draw upon my background as a college radio DJ.  The show would focus on the connections between songs, rather than the songs themselves.  The idea is that one could create the perfect (or at least an adequate) mix tape,  mix CD, or playlist by carefully exploring the transitions, or segues between songs.  Each show would focus on one or two examples, with a snippit of the music as illustration.
  • South Carolina Voices – I envision this as an audio version of my "Things Overheard" category.  Rather than an interview, this would be more like eavesdropping, and would focus on the idiosyncrases of Southern speech and expressions.
  • TATU – Tours Around the Upstate would be driving tours around and beyond our fair city, with emphasis on history.

I’m sure I could come up with more ideas.  However, I don’t have the time to fully realize these podcasts.  I guess I really need to win that lottery.

It occurs to me that a show such as the South Carolina Voices would require decent field recording equiment.  You would need something that could be imported into Acid Music directly, outputting either to WAV, WMA, or MP3 format.  I haven’t really explored these digital memo recorders, and I don’t know if the sound would be adequate. I have tried my Palm Lifedrive with limited success, and my little Nikon camera actually has a WAV setting for voice memos.  I might play around with those.  Who knows, RandomConnections may yet have a podcast.
