It’s hard to believe May is already here. This academic year has flown by. Along with May comes spring/summer outdoor activities. Greenville now has competing farmer’s markets – one downtown and one at the “official” farmer’s market on Rutherford Road. The “official” one seemed to have much more to offer. The one downtown had a few tents, but looked more like they were pretending to be a market. They need more participation to make it worthwhile, and I bet the rent is astronimical for one of those tents. 
Also downtown this weekend, there was an art show and Earth Day exhibit at the West End. The artwork was outstanding. Laura bought a print by J. Chris Campbell, who creates these “3 Minute Robots” like the one shown here. We also saw farbic art by Marjan Kluepfel who does these wonderful quilt creations. I had purchased one for Laura from a gallery several years back. The colors in the fabric are vibrant.
Also at the street fair were my friend Russ Morin with his wooden bowls, sculptures, and furniture, and our neighbors across the street, Josh and Rebecca, who create other wooden things. Greenville certainly would be much “cooler” if it had more of these activities.
After the farmers’ markets and street fairs, we went to a Derby Party in the afternoon. My horse came in third – Peace Rules. All bets were sent to Habitat for Humanity.
Sometime between all the art and partying, we managed to finalize our hot tub order. It will be delivered next Friday, assuming the deck is truly complete and passes inspection. And so for today… I’m up early because I foolishly told Steve I would sing at Covenant for both his early morning and later worship services. So much for relaxing with the paper this morning.
