New Year’s Pig Pickin’

Chip and Griff decided to do something very primal for New Year’s – cook a whole animal over a flame and eat it. They built a BBQ pit in Chip’s back yard from cinder blocks and bricks, then started cooking the pig.

I came over about lunchtime (after all the hard work was done) and watched as they periodically basted the beast, stoked coals, and picked bites from the cooking animal. The weather wasn’t very cooperative, but they had tarps spread out for the all-day cook-n-munch fest. Neighbors dropped by to sample the pig and eat smoked oysters.

We came back later in the evening for the actual party. It was still dumping rain, but we still proceeded with an outdoor party.

After spending some Chip we headed our second New Year’s affair – a more sedate party at our friends Chris and Vickie. It was still a lot of fun, and quite a bit dryer.  We watched the new year come in with them.

Tom! I’ve been meaning to let you know that geocaching is not the only way in which we connect randomly…Anna is a friend of mine. She referred me to your blog to look at your New Year’s Eve pictures since I didn’t make it to the party. Have a great 2007!
