Disney Downtown

After a long day of conferencing at FETC, the crew decided to try the Rainforest Cafe at Downtown Disney.  Miraculously, we didn’t have to wait at all for a table for nine of us.  I decided that this is not a place for those with ADD.  Every thirty minutes the lights dim, there is a flash, then thunder sounds.  The entire ceiling is covered in fake vines, and the dining area is inhabited with animatronic gorillas, chimps, and elephants, which will start moving, grunting, or trumpeting at random times during the meal.  This is also not a place for any kind of a conversation or for relaxing after an already frenetic day.

Fortunately, the food and the excellent service partially made up for the weirdness of the venue.  I had a seafood paella that was outstanding, and we finished the meal with a shared chocolate volcano that was easily enough for all of us.

After the meal we wandered through the shops.  I was most impressed with the Lego shop and it’s fantastic displays. In addition to a Lego T-Rex, there were city scenes, a Lego family, a sea serpent in the lake, and several other sea creatures.

Inside, one could purchase just about any Lego model imaginable.  There were also large bins with single colors of brick from which one could mix and match.  There was also an entire wall of small lego people.  Yes, I was quite impressed.
