It’s that time of year again. Except that "that time" is about a week later than last year. The teachers officially returned to their classrooms today. We started the year as we usually do, with a breakfast celebration in our high school.
Both our board chairman and our superintendent gave speeches on how well our schools are doing and that we should hold strong against those that rail against public education. It was a common theme last year, and seems to be emphasized even more this year.
This is always a time for socializing, too. However, most of these teachers have already been back in their classrooms for awhile, and have been getting together at their schools regularly. This was born out by the fact that almost every one of them wore matching t-shirts from their various schools.
The whole thing took about two hours, and by ten I was back in my office, with the phone ringing off the hook. The day continued about the same. I had to resort to taking some work home just so I could get it done without interruptions.
District 5 (that is your district right? has a great reputation. Too bad I went there 20 years ago when it was white trash central and there was no BMW employees to help with the tax rolls. It was Hickville then.
