Shaken, Not Stirred

The Helix has a marvelous champagne social from 5:00 until 6:00.  After a day of exploring DC, Laura and I enjoyed a complimentary beverage while watching traffic in the lobby.  Not long after we got our drinks, Tim H arrived and joined us.  After a couple of glasses, we left him to continue checking in, and went in search of dinner.

Once again we went with the recommendation of the concierge, and selected a Thai restaurant just around the block.  We found Thai Tanic with no problem, and entered a small cafe with wonderful aromas.  We started with drinks – Laura with our usual Singha, and me with a classic James Bond martini…

"I’ll have a medium dry vodka martini, shaken, not stirred."

…except with a twist instead of an olive.  Not having to deal with minibottles, the drink was mixed to perfection.  I could get used to these.

Chicken satay started the meal, with an incredible peanut sauce.  Toast points accompanied the appetizer, and was especially good with the cucumber chutney.  For entre’s, Laura ordered the Pad Thai, and I had the yellow curry with chicken.  Both dishes were superb,  although the curry was the better of the two.  While the pad thai was good, it was sweeter than we normally like.  A bit more heat would have helped.

Stuffed and buzzed, we slithered out and around the corner to a Caribou Coffee for a cafe mocha dessert, then back to Helix to turn in early.
