I got home from the SCETV workshops in Columbia to find a nice surprise waiting for me – a check for the use of one of my photographs in an advertising campaign.
A couple of months ago I was contacted about using one of my photos from my Scenes from I-85 set as part of an ad campaign for a Native American theater group in Canada. I couldn’t for the life of my figure out what I-85 had to do with Native American theater, but I guess that’s what these creative geniuses at ad agencies are supposed to do.
Anyway, I was able to find the campaign for the Fathom Labs Highway project in Vancouver. As part of the campaign, they have developed a YouTube video and several mailings that use my photo as a background.
Here’s the original photo…
…and here’s the YouTube video…
The theater looks pretty interesting. If I were closer I might be interested in attending some of the performances.

that’s very cool. They found you on Flickr?
Yeah. I guess the guy just searched for some key word like “road” or “highway.” He left a comment on the picture with his e-mail address.
I remember the Echo Valley real well. My dad was the parks manager and ran the 110 from time to time. We use to live in a few of the cabooses on the back side of the property on a spur track. Man that was so long ago but I remember it well. The little engine from Denton,NC came from here as well by the way of the Blackburg & Cherokee Falls RR. I could tell more of Echo Valley if I had the space.
